Written for the offertory of Palm Sunday, this English setting of the “Improperium” (Psalm 69: 20-21) combines aspects of the original Gregorian melody with 21st-century harmonies. A soprano duet is very singable.
Text: Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
